Sanctification Gap 11 – 霊性神学 1

とにかく、挑戦してみます。

今日からご紹介するのは、

John, Coe. “Spiritual Theology: A Theological-Experimental Methodology For Bridging The Sanctification Gap” Journal of Spiritual Formation & Soul Care Vol. 2 No. 1, (2009): 4–43.です。

Coe教授は霊性神学の学者では第一人者で、霊性神学を中心としたTalbotの教育システムを作り上げてきた人です。今も授業をやっています。私も授業取れたのですが、試験が筆記試験だとうことで、私の実力では難しいと判断し、別の教授のクラスを取りました。英語力が付けば、授業取ってみたいですねー(涙)。

序文から早速訳していきます。飛ばさないほうが、分かりやすいかも知れませんしね。

“There exists a serious gap in the mind of many believers between what they know to be the goal of sanctification and growth and where they know they actually are in their life.”
「信仰者がたどり着くべき、霊的な目標地点を自覚した時、実際の自分の生活とその目標の間には、大きなギャップがあることに、気がつくだろう。」

“The goal or spiritual ideal is somewhat clear to many, at least as an ideal: to be conformed to Christ, to love God with all our hearts and our neighbor as ourselves, to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit, to pray without ceasing, to be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
“信仰者としての理想、目標は、多くの信仰者にとって明確である。即ち、キリストに従い、神と私達の隣人を自分自身のように愛し、御霊の実を結び、絶え間なく祈り、聖霊に満たされることである。」

“We hear these good words from the pulpit and our teachers; we read them in books and meditate on them in Scripture.”

“The older we get, the more we may grow weary of our spiritual struggles, of even faking spiritual growth or lying to ourselves that what we are doing is really working.”
「年を重ねるに連れて、私達の霊的な葛藤は少なくなってくるだろう、また成長しているように見せかけたり、自分自身の実際的なの精神状態を偽ることもあるかも知れない。」

“In moments of honesty, we really want to know how to grow and whether what we have been doing for years has really resulted from the “rivers of living water” (John 7:34).”
「正直なところ、私達はどのようにすれば成長するのか、私達が長年やっていることは、本当に「命のいずみ」(John 7:34)であるキリストから出た結果なのか、知りたいと思っているのだろうか。

“That is, we want to know how to live truly in the reality of the New Covenant and life in the Spirit that we find in the New Testament.”
